modes of mentality

Summer/fall colds have struck the household once more. In between playing nursemaid, dog vs. cat referee and various work related interruptions I managed to finish Smokin Aces (after only the 4th or 5th attempt) tonight. I liked it but am sure I missed some subtle points I would have appreciated. I'll have to save it on the dvr for afternoon when everyone else is asleep. ha.

Work is starting to pick back up and while I should be glad I'm more irritated by the penny pinching clientele we seem to be getting over the next few months. That's right folks, rotten economy means bitchy meeting planners! Still the following made my start of the week a little easier.....
  • Pantone takes over the universe. Look away before you spend all the rent.
  • Do you make fiends or friends?
  • This reminds me of Eugene and all kinds of goodness.  Wonder if The Keys are ready for some biking...
  • How did I ever miss this?
  • If The Outbreak is anything like a Shaun of the Dead choose your own adventure, I'll be hooked.

Curveball

I would try and make some cute comment about life throwing things when you least expect it but I'm beginning to think that maybe life is actually all the abnormal stuff and the happy cotton candy-esque moments are really the curveballs.... if that statement makes any sense at all.
Anyhow... our lovely hurricane never developed past aa tropical storm but don't be fooled, it left plenty in its wake. The AC in my office chose that precise weekend (4 days with no one in the office) to go out and leak everywhere. Moisture + at least 95 degreee weather + no air flow = equals land of mold and unbearable humidity, just for the record. That took a few days to get under control coupled with unpacking/unsecuring all the various hurricane measures and various wind damage issues. Fun times.
And just when that is nearly done, permanently grouchy coworker has resurfaced to complain about how my dept does their job. Wouldn't it be nice if everyone just did their own jobs and stopped being bossy?
Let this be a lesson, even paradise has it's bad days/weeks.

Idiocracy

No matter how much you help some people are just never happy. The worst of it: 90% of what I've been doing is absolutely not my responsibility and done out of the goodness of my heart. And yet they are ballsy enough to complain? No soup for you I say. No soup for you!

Irish Kevin's

This is a public service announcement. Do not, under any circumstance visit Irish Kevin's with Leigh and Bobby. It will be the end of you in key west. Seriously. Pace yourself.

Why are airports so freakin cold?

And why are planes so late? Or perhaps the question should be why does flying suck? Oh let me count the ways.... 1. Charging for luggage 2. Charging for in flight food and beverage of any kind 3. Charging for blankets and pillows 4. Plane AC vents you can't turn off 5. Shrinking seats. 6. Delays, cancellations, and layovers. Yet in spite of it all I still love you dear airplane, I do.

Magic Everyday Awesomeness

well, I am much more awake today (sleep will do that) and thought it was appropriate to communicate in a more thorough manner. really not much going on other than that the Wrangler still rocks, I'm still planning a coup, and my wife is absolutely adorable half asleep. all good things.
6 more good things:

I want to blog, I should blog....

But really I'm just too tired....
In my defense, I/we have been super busy. In an effort to communicate in my sleep deprived state I will now resort to making a list:
-We bought a '92 Wrangler with soft top it is loud and Rocks!
-We have both been working TONS.
-Jody and Booby are awesome-tastic and so its the new banana plant!
-Santiago has taken to eating paper towels and toilet paper, no paper product is safe in the house
- I may be staging an eleborate, perfectly staged, brilliant beyond compare, coup in the very near future.
- L's finger is getting much better.
- Renting kayaks is for the tourists and we will soon be investing in two singles.
- Big Pine Bagel shop makes the absolute BEST iced soy chai lattes! and they're cheap!
- I am still working two jobs, and am now freelancing design AND tech gigs.
- We are considering a trek to the west coast on our way to or from Hawaii.
- I am mostly Vegan after a horrible reaction to milk products.
- FKCC is considering hosting a biodiesel co-op.
-L's parents are coming to visit in May. We hope to be completely unpacked by then.

I think that about sums it up. Oh wait, small town island life is exactly what we needed. And my tan is finally starting to be in the same league as L's!

"You must constantly ask yourself these questions: Who am I around? What are they doing to me? What have they got me reading? What have they got me saying? Where do they have me going? What do they have me thinking? And most important, what do they have me becoming? Then ask yourself the big question: Is that okay? Your life does not get better by chance, it gets better by change."

off to the keys!

Only 7 more days in Miami! And, as of this weekend we are officially residents of the Keys. We're moving all our stuff down to the new place on Saturday. What a great life, right?
